Our History
“Great things are done by a series of small things brought together” – Vincent Van Gogh
Project HandsOn is the successor to an earlier social impact initiative, Little Hands, which is rooted in the principle of giving back to society in ways that simultaneously help impart important lessons and skills, particularly for children and young adults.
Over two years, and with the invaluable support of family and friends, Little Hands has striven to make an impact in the lives of those from underserved communities. Our numerous undertakings include:
Welfare Initiatives
In 2018, Vanshika started an initiative to sell products such as handicrafts, decor pieces, baked goods, and handmade “seed Rakhis” that incentivized children to plant a variety of small plants of the buyer’s choosing. Special craft kits were procured from our close collaborator Jaipur Craft Kits (Hamara Nishchay) in a bid to support young under-priveledged girls and aid the organisation in their efforts. Through 2018 to 2021, she set up stalls at school fairs - such as the fundraiser event for Kerala floods and Karniworld Christmas Carnival (following the success of which, the founder was interviewed by the city radio) - and at the Abhyuday exhibitions organised by a women-led club in Indore.
2. Little Hands donation drive and fundraiser
During the second and third waves of Covid, Little Hands (HandsOn) began an initiative that sought to donate snack boxes to frontline workers as a way of expressing gratitude, while maintaining COVID regulations. Vanshika leveraged Instagram (@littlehands27) to raise awareness through stories, posts, and utilised features such as Instagram Live for an interview with a nurse at the frontline and a discussion with Her Circle, a social networking platform for women. Finally, with the aid of the funds raised and the support of our participants, she and her sisters were successful in distributing 150-200 boxes everyday for 2 months, among hospitals and police stations across the city.
3. Volunteering at the Khushi NGO
In December 2021, Vanshika volunteered with Khushi, an Indore-based NGO working towards the upliftment of youth in the area. For a month, she taught subjects such as Maths, Biology, Chemistry, and English to underprivileged students of classes 4th to 12th. The sessions were made comprehensible and accessible through the use of practical demonstrations and learning aids such as videos, worksheets, and powerpoint presentations.
